Brugada syndrome

Thanks Dr Michael Gibbons from ED for his presentation on Brugada syndrome. Review his talk below:

Brugada_syndrome_Windows

Key points:

  1. Brugada is relatively rare but syncope is very common. Look for Brugada in addition to other pathologies eg. heart block / long QT / Wolf-Parkinson-White in patients with syncope
  2. Definitive management of Brugada is an implanted cardiac defibrillator (ICD)
  3. Ask about family history of collapse/sudden cardiac death in patients with syncope
  4. Brugada sign in isolation (ie asymptomatic / no family history) is of questionable significance
